Use of Force and De-Escalation

Tactical Decision-Making Under Pressure

This course addresses one of the most critical skills in professional security work: knowing when to act and how to act legally and effectively. Officers develop a practical understanding of the use-of-force continuum, the legal thresholds for escalation under Texas law, and both verbal and physical de-escalation techniques. Training emphasizes real-world scenario application so officers can make defensible, professional decisions under pressure.

Baton and Handcuffing

Intermediate Force and Physical Restraint

This course provides hands-on instruction in the safe and lawful use of a baton as an intermediate force option, combined with proper handcuffing and physical restraint techniques. Officers learn correct grip, strike zones aligned with legal and ethical use-of-force standards, and how to integrate de-escalation before and after physical intervention. Completion may be required by certain employers or site contracts for officers authorized to carry intermediate force tools.

OC Spray / Chemical Agent (Pepper Spray)

Chemical Agent Authorization

Officers seeking authorization to carry oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray on duty must complete a DPS-approved chemical agent training course. This course covers the proper use of OC spray as a force option, its physiological effects, medical considerations, legal use boundaries, and decontamination procedures. Training includes a practical application component conducted in-person.

First Aid, CPR, and AED

First Aid, CPR, and AED

Security officers are frequently the first responder in an emergency. This course provides certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of automated external defibrillators (AED), and basic first aid response for common emergency situations. Many employers and contract sites require this certification as a condition of employment, and it represents a critical life-safety skill set for any professional security officer.
